Finnlines to lengthen up to six ships at Remontowa
Written by Nick Blenkey
APRIL 5, 2017 — Helsinki, Finland, headquartered Finnlines says that, starting in September 2017, it will lengthen four of its “Breeze series” vessels, with an option to lengthen two more vessels. The lengthening will increase each vessel’s capacity by around 1,000 lane meters.
Finnlines has signed a contract with Remontowa S.A. shipyard in Gdansk, Poland. where the actual work will commence in mid September 2017. The shipyard is committed to performing this work in less than two months for each vessel. The whole lengthening program will be completed in May 2018.
The close to 30% capacity increase will considerably reduce the energy consumption per transported unit compared to the original vessel.
Remontowa S.A. shipyard is also involved in several energy efficiency projects for Finnlines’ MS Finneagle. The vessel is currently in Gdansk where inline hybrid scrubbers and new improved propeller blades are being installed. Additionally, passenger capacity will be increased to 800 by building new passenger areas.
