
Cassens Werft books ROpax order

FEBRUARY 4, 2014 — Shipbuilder Cassens Werft, Emden, Germany, has been awarded a contract by AG Reederei Norden – Frisia for a double ended ROpax ferry that will serve between Nordeich on the East Frisian mainland and the island of Norderney.
With a length of 74.3 m, width of 13.4 m and maximum draft of 1.75 m, it will be dimensioned for the very narrow and shallow fairway to Norderney, having the necessary maneuverability, thanks to Voith Schneider propulsion, and will be a near sister ship to the Frisia IV, delivered by Cassens in 2002
The newbuild will be equipped with the same emissions reduction technology as AG Reederei Norden’s most recent delivery, the Frisia VII, including exhaust gas after treatment and filtering that, according to Reederei Norden Executive Carl- Ulfert Stegmann, will achieve almost the same emission values as with a gas-fueled ship Other eco-friendly features will include residual heat utilization and the use of LED lighting.
