HHIC-Phil to build 20,600 TEU CMA-CGM box ships

HHIC-Phil's 550 m x 135 m building dock is world's largest

APRIL 7, 2015 — HHIC-Phil, Hanjin Heavy Industries’ Subic, Phillipines, shipyard, is to build the three 20,600 TEU containerships recently announced by France’s CMA-CGM (see earlier story).

The ships are the three largest container vessels thus far ordered worldwide and will measure 400 m in length, 59 m in breadth and 33 m in depth. They will be delivered sequentially starting in the second half of 2017.

The world’s largest containerships are being built in what’s claimed to be the world’s largest building dock, the Subic shipyard’s 550 m x 135 m unit.

In response to CMA-CGM’s requests, HHIC has reinforced the hull structure and extended the fatigue design life of the 26,000 TEU ships.

Improvements in environment-friendly performance will include the installation of the latest high-efficiency engine, propeller design and energy-management system.
