Star Cruises places EUR 697.2 million order at Meyer Werft

FEBRUARY 11, 2014 – Star Cruises has placed another contract with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft for a new cruise ship. The 150,000 gt vessel, set for fall 2017 delivery, will be a sister ship to the ship ordered at Meyer Werft by Star in October 2013 and will have a length of about 330 m and carry more than 3,300 passengers in 1,680 cabins. It will have a crew of about 2,030.

The order is conditional on financing being arranged by April 14 and, according to Star Cruises’ parent Genting Hong Kong, the contract price is EUR 697.2 million (about $951 million) including a EUR 57 million allowance for buyer’s items.

The ship boasts a variety of restaurants, entertainment venues, casinos and high class suites designed for the Asian market, particularly Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. With a speed of up to 24 knots, the ship will have a great flexibility to serve exciting Asian itineraries.

The order takes the shipyard’s cruise ship order book to seven vessels up to the end of 2017.
