Written by Nick Blenkey
DECEMBER 8, 2016 — Spain’s Gondan shipyard yesterday delivered its first live fish carrier, the Martin Sæle.
With a length of 50 m length and beam of 12.6 m, the vessel has the capacity to transport 1,000 cu.m of water and live fish in her hold.
Her port of registry is Bergen, Norway, but she will operate in the Shetland Islands, where she will transport young and adult fish between different farms along the coast, and also to and from the in-land fish factories and farms.
The technologically advanced vessel has accommodations for up to seven crew members, but due to her high degree of automation, she can be operated by only four persons.
