The new MTU marine genset delivers up to 323 kW

MARCH 26, 2014 — Rolls-Royce Power Systems has introduced a new MTU marine genset . The genset is based on a 6-cylinder Series 1600 inline engine delivering up to 323 kW output and compliant with IMO Tier II and EPA Tier 3 regulations. The marine engine version is configured for on-board power generation and is derived from a robust and cost-efficient Series 1600 unit used for power generation on land.

With maintenance intervals said to be “considerably longer than average” and specific fuel consumption under 205 g/kWh at full continuous power, the genset is claimed to set a new standard in terms of low overall running costs.

The genset engine meets both classification society regulations in the commercial segment and the demands of civil and military applications with respect to acoustics, shock and magnetic signature.
