Boston Ship Repair wins $8.6 million MSC award

Fleet Replenishment Oiler USNS Big Horn (T-AO 198)

NOVEMBER 23, 2014 — Boston Ship Repair, LLC, Boston, MA, is being awarded an $8,625,966 firm fixed-price contract for a 57-calendar day regular overhaul and drydocking of Military Sealift Command’s Fleet Replenishment Oiler Ship USNS Big Horn (T-AO 198).

The contract includes options, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative to $10,610,786.

Work will include clean and gas free tanks, voids, cofferdams and spaces, deck non-skid renewal, ballast tank preservation, cylinder head and liner overhaul, main engine turbo overhaul, cargo console mechanical support, auxiliary boiler maintenance and inspection, annual lifeboat certification, house ventilation system cleaning, docking and undocking, propeller system maintenance and hub replacement, overhauling sea valves, and underwater hull cleaning and painting.

Big Horn’s primary mission is to provide fuel to U.S. Navy ships at sea and jet fuel to aircraft assigned to aircraft carriers.

Work will be performed in Boston and is expected to be completed by Feb. 23, 2015. Fiscal 2015 operations and maintenance (Navy) contract funds in the amount of $8,625,966 are obligated and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

The contract was competitively procured with proposals solicited via the Federal Business Opportunities website, with three proposals received. The U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command, Washington, District of Columbia, is the contracting activity (N32205-15-C-1010).
