Eniram and ABB ink agreement on Azipod optimization

Written by

azipodEniram Ltd. has announced an agreement with ABB to integrate Eniram pod optimization technology into the ABB Azipod poddedpropulsion system for newbuild vessels as well as retrofit projects.

The dynamic pod optimization, based on Eniram’s Vessel Management System (VMS), optimizes the relation of the Azipod angles and will enable ship operators sailing Azipod propelled vessels to make further increases in fuel savings. Results from a collaborative study carried out last year by Eniram and ABB exceeded the originally anticipated fuel savings proving that the combined technology has the potential to truly increase vessel efficiency.

“With rising fuel costs and energy efficiency measures high on the agenda, shipping operators are under increasing pressure to maximize performance in all fields of vessel operations” said Philip Padfield, CEO, Eniram. “As a leader in the automation technology marketplace, Eniram is proud of ABB’s vote of confidence in our high accuracy analytics systems and we are excited about the opportunity to assist in delivering improved fuel efficiency for its Azipod customers.”

“Following the completion of a successful joint study, we quickly leveraged Eniram’s technology in the continuous work of developing our propulsion technology” said Heikki Soljama, head of ABB’s Marine and Cranes Business Unit. “By incorporating Eniram’s Vessel Management System (VMS) into our Azipod units, we further improve on fuel efficiency and provide the shipping community with the most advanced propulsion solution in the marketplace today”.

ABB and Eniram will be showcasing the joint solution at Cruise Shipping Miami in March.
