The Pierce County Planning and Public Works Department located in Tacoma Washington owns and manages the Pierce County Ferry System. Planning and Public Works provides essential services that enhance and support livability in our county. Our goals include being good financial stewards, providing excellent service delivery, and engaging with the community to meet their needs.
description of project
The purpose of this RFP is to gather proposals from contractors qualified, financially stable and experienced in providing full-service ferry operation and maintenance services. We expect to receive a systematic, assured program to provide and guarantee proper ferry maintenance and safe operations. Specific details of the scope of work will be negotiated with the contractor deemed most qualified to provide the necessary services. This document contains overall structure ideas, scope of work outlines, etc., but is not intended to be the complete scope of work that may be required.
The Pierce County Ferry System transports persons, vehicles, and other property between the Town of Steilacoom and the islands of Anderson and Ketron. Operations run 7 days a week on a scheduled basis.
The annual operating and maintenance budget is approximately $3,000,000.00.
Pierce County owns two ferry vessels:
- M/V Christine Anderson (Subchapter “K” Vessel, 219 passengers including crew and approximately 54 cars)
- M/V Steilacoom II (Subchapter “K” Vessel, 292 passengers including crew and approximately 54 cars)
The Ferry System also includes docks at Steilacoom, Anderson Island and Ketron Island, and terminals in the Town of Steilacoom and on Anderson Island.
