U.S. Geological Survey seeks replacement for R/V Grayling

RV GraylingJULY 9, 2012 – U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Great Lakes Science Center (GLSC), Ann Arbor, Mich. has a requirement for a new fisheries research vessel (R/V) to replace the current R/V Grayling, pictured here.

Built in 1977 by Bender Shipbuilding, the 75 ft Grayling provides the platform in the upper Laurentian Great Lakes (Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, and Lake Superior) for the Deepwater Science Program.

The procurement will include the final detail design, construction and commissioning of the Grayling replacement (steel construction, 70 ft range), as well as providing and installing associated scientific mission and operating equipment.

The Government anticipates award of a commercial, firm fixed price contract. According to a presolicitation posted July 2, “the solicitation and any documents related to this procurement will be available at www.fedbizopps.gov on or about 07/09/2012. The associated solicitation number is G12PS00585. The offeror is responsible for monitoring the Fedbizopps site for the release of the solicitation and amendments (if any).”

As of July 9, the solicitation hadn’t yet been posted.

The requirement is being issued as set aside for small business competition. The applicable North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code is 336611.
