17m windfarm cat from Sea Speed Design
Written byAustralia-based Sea Speed Design has completed and released its new 17 meter windfarm catamaran design. Developed in accordance with Ireland’s Norfolk Marine, the design, named the Tern Class Catamaran, is based on Sea Speed’s Deep-Sea cat hull—which features a deep vee hull form, high wing clearance and extra strong structure and plating. This particular design will also include walk around sides, large forward and aft work decks, a spacious day cabin and below hull berthing for six crew.
Large fuel capacity matched with fuel efficient hulls offer extended range and fuel bunkering capabilities. The wind farm cat will have a speed of 25 knots and will be powered by two Scania 750 hp engines.
The design and kit combination was prepared in accordance with the MCA criteria with Hull and Engineering to Lloyd’s SSC standard for offshore operations, enabling operation in most countries. Construction on the first vessel for Norfolk Marine is expected to begin this year.
