Thoma-Sea launches Lockport shipyard’s largest vessel yet
Written by Nick BlenkeyDECEMBER 2, 2012 — Thoma-Sea Shipbuilders, has launched the largest vessel yet from its Lockport, La. shipyard, the 294 ft 6 in x 62 ft Z-drive PSV Taylor James. Being built for Gulf Offshore Logistics for delivery in 2013, the vessel is the first to be constructed to the new Enviromax 300 design developed by Technology Associates, Inc,, New Orleans, in association with Thoma-Sea (see earlier story).
The diesel electric PSV is being built to ABS/USCG/SOLAS/DP2/FIFI‐1 requirements with two Rolls-Royce Azimuth Thruster Z drives and two Rolls- Royce tunnel bow thrusters.
Two Caterpillar 3512 propulsion generator sets will each produce 1,700 kW @1,800 rpm, while two Caterpillar 3516 propulsion generator sets will each produce 2,000 kW @1,800 rpm. The 125 kW emergency marine generator set will be Tier 2 emission certified.
