MAN Diesel & Turbo to power Sanco seismic ship

Written by

sancoseismicmicroThe seismic ship on order for  Sanco Shipping AS at Kleven Maritime’s Myklebust shipyard in southern Norway (see earlier story) is to be powered by four MAN 8L32/40 engines.

Designed by Skipsteknisk AS in Ålesund, the ST 324 CE type ship is to be delivered in May 2013 and has the measurements: length: 88.9 m; beam: 21.5 m; deadweight: 2 700 tonnes.

The four-stroke engines will be constructed in Augsburg, headquarters of MAN Diesel & Turbo and a
four-stroke engine production site in its own right.

MAN Diesel & Turbo attributes the landing of the new order to its presence in Ålesund, an important European offshore center and focused activity on this significant segment.

The order is strategically important to the company in many respects. Sanco Shipping is one of the fastest growing players in the seismic survey business locally and it chose MAN power despite stiff competition. MAN Diesel & Turbo also views the order as another step in the right direction in its targeted strategy of increasing the market share in the Norwegian offshore market.
