Global 1200 arrived at Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam last month

FEBRUARY 4, 2015 — Technip has awarded Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam a contract for for drydocking, upgrades and operational modifications to the deepwater rigid pipe S-lay and heavy lift vessel Global 1200.

The vessel, which arrived at the shipyard last month, is the first of two deepwater pipelay and heavy lift vessels owned by Technip.  Designed by Ulstein Sea of Solutions (SoS) of the Netherlands, it was delivered by Singapore shipbuilder Keppel Singmarine in 2010.

“The major upgrade works are divided into three packages; (i) dry-docking for Special Periodical Survey and various maintenance repair works, (ii) modifications to upgrade the vessel DP capability, and (iii) various pipelay equipment upgrades for future projects,” says Ruud Haneveer, Damen Rotterdam’s Commercial Manager Offshore & Conversion.

In 2013-2014, Damen Rotterdam Shiprepair successfully completed  life-time extension works on the Stanislav Yudin (owned and operated by Seaway Heavy Lifting) and Mark Witjens, the shipyard’s Managing Director, says the Yudin project gave a significant step upwards in DSR’s project management and QHES organization that will contribute to the successful completion of the Global 1200 upgrade and modifications works.

Mr. Witjens says the Global 1200 contract was reached after six months of hard work with Aberdeen and Houston based Technip project teams.
