Videos posted on YouTube show the collapse, Sunday, of a wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) jack-up in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, China. At the time of the collapse, there were 64 people aboard the vessel—61 of whom were transferred. A search and rescue effort involving multiple ships and helicopter has been underway to find the four still missing from the vessel.
Some reports attribute the cause of the collapse as likely a “punch through” of the sea by one of the jack-up’s legs. The vessel is identified as the Sheng Ping 001, a jack-up converted for wind turbine installation work from the former Teras Offshore self-elevating platform Teras Fortress 2.
