Great Lakes Shipyard completes work on research vessel

GrandonJULY 18, 2012 — Great Lakes Shipyard, Cleveland, Ohio, Great Lakes Shipyard has completed repairs on the Ohio Department of Natural Resources research vessel Grandon.

The R/V Grandon is part of the Fairport Harbor Fisheries Research Station for the ODNR’s Division of Wildlife. Its primary focus is assessing and managing fish populations and fisheries by taking samples, monitoring population demographics, and insuring the protection of habitats and resource integrity.

In late June, ODNR awarded Great Lakes Shipyard with the contract to provide repairs to the vessel, including drydocking, blasting, painting, and electrical and lighting replacements

Great Lakes Shipyard, a division of the Great Lakes Towing Company, has a 770-ton Travelift and a 250-ton dry dock. It is a full-service yard specializing in new construction, repairs, modifications, and fabrications of all types of vessels and barges. Recent projects include constructing tanks for Pittsburg Tank & Tower Company, construction of a third Handy Size class tugboat Handy-Three which was delivered to Puerto Rico Towing & Barge Co. in San Juan in early June, and the simultaneous construction of two state-of-the-art ASD tractor tugs for Caribbean Tugz, LLC, an affiliate of SEACOR Holdings, Inc. “
