AUGUST 13, 2014 — Maersk Supply Service has entered into a contract with China’s COSCO (Dalian) shipyard for building four subsea support vessels with options for two additional vessels. All the vessels are of Marin Teknikk, Norway, MT6027 design and Marin Teknikk has now entered an agreement with the shipbuilder to supply delivery design and engineering for the vessel’s
Maersk Supply Service already has one subsea supply vessel and two anchor handling tug supply vessels on order from shipyards in Romania and in Chile.
“With this new order in China, we have taken the next step in our extensive newbuilding program,” says Maersk Supply Service CEO Carsten Plougmann Andersen. “We are reshaping our fleet to focus primarily on anchor handling tug supply vessels and subsea support vessels. In a long term perspective, we see great potential in these segments.”
Mr. Liang Yanfeng, President of COSCO Shipyard Group and Chairman of COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard says, “We are happy to have been awarded this contract by Maersk Supply Service to build four subsea support vessels. In return for the vote of confidence, COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard will deliver the vessels in satisfaction of timeliness and exacting requirements of our client”.
The vessels are rated for operations in up to 3,000 m of water depth and potential customers are international oil companies and construction companies. Delivery of the first vessels is expected in the fourth quarter of 2016.
Marin Teknikk says the vessels will be arranged for cable laying and umbilical\s, as well as cranes for subsea projects.
They will have a length of 138 m, a beam of 27 m and have a deadweight of 8,000 tonnes.
Features of the DP3-rated vessels include 1,925 sq. m of free deck space, accommodations for 120 people (all in one-man cabins) and a 400t AHC crane, rated for operations in water depths of up to 3,000 m. The vessels will also have the option to install an under deck carousel for 3,000 t of product and to be configured for a 275 t vertical lay tower over the deck of the moon pool.
Marin Teknikk says its agreement with the shipbuilder includes a large scope of deliveries from European and Norwegian sub-suppliers.
