APRIL 11, 2014 — Hoffer Flow Controls, Inc., Elizabeth City, NC, has received a new contract from the U. S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) to supply fuel flow measurement systems as a part of the U.S. Navy’s Energy Dashboard Program.

Hoffer fuel measurement systems are currently incorporated into the “Energy Dashboard Proof-of-Concept System” aboard severa DDG51 class ships. The new contract will expand significantly the number of ships equipped with these systems.

The Energy Dashboard uses an integrated condition assessment system, which ties into other shipboard computer software systems making sailors aware of how certain engineering plants line-up and the overall effects on fuel consumption rates. Sailors will now have access to instantaneous net fuel consumption rates. This will provide ships with the ability to adjust their navigational habits to maximize fuel efficiency.

The Energy Dashboard is anticipated to be fielded in all U.S. Navy surface ships by 2017.

The approved Hoffer flow products for use on the DDG51 class ships include two different flow meter sizes and a model CAT3 intelligent signal conditioner. The flow meters provide a linearity of +/-0.1% of reading. The flow meters and signal conditioners have been tested to meet MIL requirements for shock and vibration.
