Alaska Tanker Company opts for Ecochlor BWMS

Alaska Tanker Company (ATC) is to retrofit the Ecochlor ballast water management system (BWMS) on board three of its VLCCs with an option for a fourth vessel.

The installations will start in the fall of 2019 and run through 2021 at the Sembawang Shipyard, Singapore.

Alaska Tanker’s fleet of four U.S.-built, U.S.-flagged VLCCs is time chartered to carry all of BP’s Alaska North Slope crude oil. Through Contracts of Affreightment (CO’s) and cargo exchanges, ATC has also performed crude oil deliveries for Conoco-Phillips and ExxonMobil.

The USCG Type Approved Ecochlor BWMS is approved for installation in both U.S. flag and International vessels in hazardous areas rated Zone 1 or Zone 0.

The Ecochlor BWMS uses a two-step treatment process – filtration followed by chlorine dioxide. The system’s effectiveness is not impaired by variations in salinity, temperature, turbidity, organics, and vibration. The automated system is crew-friendly, has low power consumption.
