Aidaluna drydocking includes scrubber retrofit

MAY 7, 2014 — AIDAluna has left the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg after extensive maintenance work April 26 to May 5 and installation of the first stage of a comprehensive exhaust gas treatment system. The AIDA Cruises fleet is being retrofitted with the emissions controls system developed by parent Carnival Corporation and AIDAluna was the line’s first ship to begin the process, by being installed with an exhaust gas scrubber that will reduce SOx emissions by about 90%.

Other work carried out during the drydocking included scheduled class and maintenance work, including work on the stabilizers, the rudder the hull , and the machinery space.

Also getting a make-over were the deck coverings and the guest cabins and public areas, with more than 2,000 sq.m of carpet being replaced, upholstery cleaned and renewed and painter and leather care work undertaken.

The photo shop now has a face recognition system that allows guests to use their boarding pass to scan all the photos taken  of them and individually select which  to print as a souvenir of the trip. By going digital in the photo shop, AIDA will save around 50 percent on photo paper and chemicals, a further contribution to protection of the environment.

Built by Meyer Werft, the 2,000 passenger AIDAluna has been in service since 2011.
