Hurricane Delta delays Mississippi River revetment work
Written by Marine Log StaffThe Big River Coalition says it has confirmed that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) was forced to adjust the previously advertised schedule of work for revetment and stone berm operations due to shutdowns related to safely avoiding the weather impacts associated with Hurricane Delta.
The Mat Sinking Unit (MSU) is now expected to continue work at Algiers Point (Mile 93.7 Above Head of Passes [AHP]) daily until completion on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. Revetment operations are conducted from 0600 hours to 1900 hours with one-way transits being coordinated by the Coast Guard’s Lower Mississippi River Vessel Traffic Service and the Contact Pilot on the MSU. The previous schedule indicated the work at Algiers Point would be completed October 15t. The MSU will move downriver upon completion at Algiers Point and is expected to start work at Point Michel (Mile 43.7 AHP) on October 22, 2020.
The stone berm placement operations at Plaquemine Bend (Mile 208.5 AHP) were also delayed and are now expected to be completed on Friday, November 6, 2020, this work was previously scheduled to be completed on October 20th. The bank stabilization work at Plaquemine Bend is also being conducted during daylight hours (0600 hours to 1900 hours) with a one-way transit restriction.
The USACE continues working to compile an updated schedule of work for comprehensive revetment operations.
