Great Lakes Shipyard completes repairs to Canadian tug and barge

McKeil-shipping340x255Great Lakes Shipyard, Cleveland, OH, recently completed the winter layup and repair of the tug John Spence and barge Niagara Spirit for McKeil Marine, Hamilton, ON, Canada. The project was the first major ship repair contract for Great Lakes Shipyard from a Canadian company.

The shipyard completed general steel work on both the tug and barge and installed a new winch system for the cover on the Niagara Spirit.

Other work at the yard includes the conversion of the Z-drive thrusters on Interlake Steamship Company’s tug Dorothy Ann from a fixed-pitch to controllable  pitch and the delivery of a 60 ft workboat for the Port of Milwaukee. The shipyard is also building two ASD tugs for SEACOR Holings.

Great Lakes Shipyard is currently undergoing expansion, including the addition of a new 770-ton Marine Travelift.
