APRIL 19, 2017 —Set to debut in 2018, a 38-knot wavepiercer under construction at Incat in Australia for Virtu Ferries will have Wärtsilä waterjets. With 1,134 passenger seats and a garage deck designed to carry 23 heavy commercial trailers, the 110m vessel will be the largest high speed catamaran operating in the Mediterranean and will complete the crossing from Malta to Sicily, berth to berth, in around 90 minutes.

Wärtsilä’s scope of supply covers four LJX1500SRI waterjets and a Lipstronic control system. The equipment is scheduled to be delivered to the shipyard in April 2018 and the ship is to be delivered to the owners at the end of 2018.

The inlet design is tailored to the outline and operational profile of each individual vessel.
