Lauwersoog, Netherlands, based Next Generation Shipyards has signed a contract to build a new design offshore wind crew service vessel said to combines the stability of a catamaran with the speed and fuel efficiency of a monohull.

The contract, which includes options for three more vessels, was placed by a new Lauwersoog-based offshore wind services operator, Coastwise Offshore Services. Commercial management of the vessel will be by Harlingen-based SeaZip Offshore Service.

Coastwise Offshore Services has been established by Groningen region shipping entrepreneurs Eelko Wijdieks and Douwe van den Berg along with investor Onno Nienhuis. It is backed by a small group of private investors.

And while commercial management of the vessels will be by SeaZip (which itself has a stake in the start-up), Wijdieks and van den Berg will themselvesbe responsible for the vessels’ operational management —in a very hands-on way. They also plan to sail as the masters of the vessels.

The new designed has been developed by Van Dorresteijn Design of Dordrecht, working in close collaboration with Next Generation Shipyards, and is designated: 30 Pax Monomaran Crewtender- Endurance class NG2727.

The first vessel will be delivered to Coastwise in December 2021 and sail under the name of COS Master.

The aluminum vessel is over 27 meters long and can carry 30 passengers and a load of 15 to 22 tons. It will be fitted with a deck crane and will have a cruising speed is 27 knots.
