WinGD's Rolf Stiefel talks with Marine Log's Paul Hutton

SEPTEMBER 6, 2016—Shipping is under increasing environmental regulatory pressure and is currently suffering from an over tonnage in the market place, so controlling costs is the number one topic in the industry today.

This means that shipping has to adapt to changing operational environment, which requires a much broader flexibility of the propulsion concept than it was five years ago.

In order to get some insight into how shipping was meeting the challenges of today and the near future, Marine Log’s Paul Hutton spoke with Rolf Stiefel, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) at SMM 2016 trade fair. WinGD is exhibiting at SMM 2016 in Hamburg, Germany, where more than 50,000 attendees and 2,200 exhibitors have converged to share lessons and information regarding the industry’s best marine technologies and best practices.

WinGD is a leading developer of two-stroke low-speed gas and diesel engines used for propulsion power in merchant shipping. WinGD’s target is to set the industry standard for reliability, efficiency and environmental friendliness. WinGD provides designs, licenses and technical support to manufacturers, shipbuilders and ship operators worldwide.
