MAY 31, 2016 — Dublin headquartered Irish Continental Group plc (ICG) is investing EUR 144 million to build a new cruise ferry for its Irish Ferries operation.

To be built by German shipbuilder Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesselschaft (FSG), the cruise ferry will accommodate 1,885 passengers and crew, with 435 cabins and with capacity for 2,800 lane meters of freight (165 freight vehicles) plus an additional dedicated car deck with capacity for 300 passenger cars.

Delivery from the shipyard is set for May 2018.

Irish Continental says that 20% of the contract price will be paid in instalments during the construction period and the balance of 80% will be paid on delivery. ICG intends to utilize a combination of existing cash resources and loan facilities to finance the cruise ferry. The pre-delivery installment payments to FSG will be protected by means of bank guarantees.

The vessel will be fitted with exhaust gas scrubber technology (not included in the EUR 144 million building price) and ballast treatment systems will meet current and known future environmental regulations.

The cruise ferry will be powered by four main engines delivering 33,600 kW and will have a speed of 22.5 knots. It will be built to Ice Class specification.
