
Two large hybrid ferries to have CRP propulsion

OCTOBER 22, 2014 — Shipbuilder Japan Marine United Inc.has received an order from MOL Ferry Co., Ltd. for two large, eco-friendly ferries. With a capacity of 620 passengers, 160 trucks and 113 autos, the 14,000 gt ships will have a length OA of 199.7 m and a beam of 27.2 m.
They will have a hybrid drive propulsion, contrarotating propellers (CRP) and a hull form optimized for fuel efficiency. Service speed will be 24 knots.
Delivery from the Isogoku Factory of JMU’s Yokahama Shipyard is set for the first half of FY 2017 after which they are scheduled to be put into regular service in Ibaraki Prefecture between Oarai Port and Hokkaido Tomakomai
