Wärtsilä appoints Torsten Buessow as Director of Transas business

JANUARY 11, 2019 — Wärtsilä has appointed Torsten Buessow as Director of its Transas business. He will report to Joonas Makkonen, Vice President of Voyage Solutions at Wärtsilä.

Buessow joins Wärtsilä from classification society, DNV GL where he worked for more than a decade, first as a Vice President of the company’s Maritime Software Business Unit, and then as a VP of Fleet Performance Management, its Maritime Digital Business Unit. He earlier spent almost 10 years at Capgemini, a global management and IT consulting company, working mainly with logistics and transportation sector clients.

Transas, which was acquired by Wärtsilä in May 2018, is a leading provider of advanced technological solutions for the maritime industry, including fleet operations solutions, digital data and charts. The company is also a leader in professional simulation & training, and ship traffic control solutions.
