MARCH 3, 2014 — Vigor Fab has been awarded a contract to build two 83,000 bbl. tank barges for Harley Marine Services, Inc., Seattle, WA. The 422 ft x 76 ft x 27 ft tank barges, designed by Elliott Bay Design Group to be part of articulated tug and barge configurations, will be among the largest vessels constructed for Harley Marine’s fleet.
Construction will begin this month at Vigor’s 60-acre shipyard in Portland, OR. With an 800 foot buildway, 600 ton gantry crane, and 360,000 square feet of covered fabrication areas, the shipyard is well equipped to handle large projects like these. Vigor also built the Sixty-Five Roses tank barge (pictured below), about the same size as the new barges and currently the largest vessel in Harley’s fleet, in Portland.

The first tank barge is scheduled for delivery in spring 2015, with the second barge set for delivery by the shipbuilder in the summer of 2015.
Earlier deliveries by Vigor to Harley include Sixty-Five Roses, a 422 ft x 76 ft tank barge with capacity of 83,600 barrels. She is presently employed in U.S. West Coast trade under charter to a major oil company. Built in 2010 by Vigor in Portland, OR, the barge is of double hull design and constructed to exceed OPA 90 double hull standards. Fully loaded she displaces 13,150 long tons DWT. She is certified ABS Maltese Cross A1 Oceans.
