Good day for South Korean shipbuilders

Two major South Koreans shipyards reported significant orders today, according to Yonhap news agency reports.

Hyundai Heavy Industry Group disclosed that it has signed a $178 million contract to build two 300,000 dwt VLCCs for delivery in 2022 to undisclosed European customers.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., meantime, disclosed that it has won a $340 million deal to build a floating LNG storage and regasification unit (LNG-FSRU) for delivery by June 2023. The deal is subject to a final investment decision (FID) by the undisclosed customer, described as being based in Central America.
