Austal gets another $7.2 million for LCS 8

OCTOBER 10, 2014 — Austal USA, Mobile, Alabama, was recently awarded a $7,214,198 cost-plus-fixed-fee modification to a previously awarded contract (N00024-11-C-2301) to exercise an option for post-delivery support for the Littoral Combat Ship Montgonery (LCS 8).

Launched by the shipbuilder August 6, the Montgonery is the second of ten 127-meter Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ships that Austal is building for the U.S. Navy as prime contractor under a $3.5 billion block buy in 2010.

This option exercise is for post-delivery support of the Montgomery. Austal will perform the planning and implementation of deferred design changes that have been identified during the construction period. The corrections and upgrades are necessary to support the Montgomery’s sailaway and follow-on post-delivery test and trials period.

Work will be performed in Mobile, AL (70 percent); Pittsfield, MA (20 percent); and San Diego, CA (10 percent), and is expected to be completed by October 2016. Fiscal 2011 ship construction (Navy) funds in the amount of $500,000 will be obligated at time of award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, DC, is the contracting activity.
