MAY 25, 2016 — Spain’s Gondan Shipyard has signed a contract with Acuña Group member Naviera Nabia for a 250 passenger GRP (glass reinforced polyester) catamaran ferry that will operate in the Vigo region.

Designed by Insenaval of Vigo, the catamaran will have a length of 24 m and beam of 8 m. With a maximum speed of 20 knots and cruising speed of 15 knots, it will have a range of up to 750 miles.

The shipbuilder says it will have “an innovative and highly optimized hull that will reduce sea-sickness, lessening vertical acceleration thanks to its special side conduits, designed to displace water from waves during navigation.”

The order reinforces the position of Gondan Shipyard’s GRP Division as one of the leading GRP shipbuilding companies in Spain, providing tailor-made technological solutions for a broad range of vessel types.
