Finnish shipbuilder Rauma Marine Constructions Oy (RMC) has awarded Deltamarin a contract to provide basic and detail design services for all hull and machinery spaces for the hybrid car passenger ferry the shipyard is building for Kvarken Link AB (see earlier story).

Deltamarin’s work will be carried out over a period of 13-14 months at its offices in Finland and Poland with the assistance of network companies.

The ferry will have a freight capacity of 1,500 lane-meters for trucks on two cargo decks and will accommodate 800 passengers.

The ice class 1A Super vessel is designed to have a low environmental impact, with a hybrid propulsion solution combining dual fuel (LNG/biogas and diesel/SCR) machinery and batteries, connected to azimuth thrusters/pods.

The ferry is planned to be delivered in 2021 and will operate daily in the Kvarken region between the cities of Vaasa in Finland and Umeå in Sweden.
