Tognum and Rolls-Royce win joint orders

JULY 19, 2012 — MTU-parent Tognum and Rolls-Royce have won two orders for the supply of marine engines and propeller-rudder systems.

 ”Winning these first orders confirms that cooperation with our new majority shareholders Rolls-Royce and Daimler is on the right track,” commented Joachim Coers, CEO of Tognum AG.  

The first order, worth around EUR 3 million will see twin MTU engines used to power Rolls-Royce propeller-rudder systems on a total of six tug boats for Brazil’s Camorim. Twelve MTU 16V 4000 M63 engines, each developing 2,000 kW, will be supplied.

The tugs will mainly be used to support Petrobras offshore oil production operations  in Rio de Janeiro/Macae.

“The Brazilian market for marine engines is continuously expanding and holds huge potential for us,” said Mr. Coers.

The second order, worth around EUR 2 million to Tognum, comes from Norwegian shipbuilder Fjellstrand. Four marine gensets based on MTU 16V 4000 M23S engines, each with a power output of 1,840 kW, will be used to propel a multi-purpose offshore vessel operated by Norside Supporter AS. The engines back up the vessel’s Rolls-Royce propellers and automation system.
 
Engine dispatch for both orders is scheduled for the end of this year.
