JANUARY 23, 2014 — Rem Offshore ASA has awarded Norway’s Kleven Shipyard a contract for the construction of a platform supply vessel specially designed to operate in challenging arctic conditions.

Valued at NOK 345 million, the 87 m x 20 m vessel will be built to Wärtsila Ship Design’s VS485 MK III Arctic design. It includes a number of features for ice prevention and de-icing, and hull and propulsion systems will have ICE-1B class. Delivery from the shipbuilder  is slated for second quarter 2015.

“We highly appreciate the close cooperation we have with Rem Offshore, and the fact that they again have chosen to order a new vessel from Kleven,” said Ståle Rasmussen, CEO of Kleven. “When this vessel gets delivered Q2 2015, it will be vessel number 18 from Kleven to Rem since 2006. It is a unique story. Our two organizations know each other very well, ensuring a smooth building process.”

“It is a pleasure for us to be able to use a local shipyard and local suppliers, and our experience with this design is solid,” said shipowner Åge Remøy.
