The world's largest semi-submersible drilling rig, Ocean Greatwhite

JULY 17, 2016 — The world’s largest shipbuilder has delivered the world’s largest largest semi-submersible drilling rig.

South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) delivered the 123 m x 78 m Ocean Greatwhite to Diamond Offshore on July 15.

The rig is capable of operating in waters up to 3 km deep and drilling down to a depth of 10.67 km from the sea surface.

It will be chartered to BP for operation in the Great Australian Bight from October this year.

HHI won the $630 million order to build the rig in 2013. It says the delivery installment worth 460 billion won ($395 million) received from the client will help improve its cash flow.
