SEPTEMBER 28, 2016—Yesterday, General Dynamics NASSCO, San Diego, CA, delivered the 50,000 dwt Bay State, the fourth vessel in a series of five ECO Class product tankers under contract with American Petroleum Tankers (APT).

Built for service in the Jones Act trade, The U.S.-flag, 610 ft long Bay State is a LNG-conversion-ready product tanker, meaning that the vessel can be converted to burn Liquefied Natural Gas—LNG—as a fuel. Classed by ABS, the ship has a 330,000 bbl cargo capacity.

The new ECO Class design symbolizes the emerging direction of the shipping industry in the U.S. toward cleaner, more fuel-efficient modes of transporting product.

“The Bay State is the product of world-leading design, engineering and construction.” says Kevin Graney, Vice President and General Manager for General Dynamics NASSCO. “We take pride in knowing we are delivering another high-quality vessel to our partner, American Petroleum Tankers.”

GD NASSCO has delivered 28 oceangoing ships to government and commercial customers—including the world’s first LNG-powered containerships for TOTE—over the past decade.

On the commercial side, GD NASSCO partners with South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) for access to state-of-the-art ship design and shipbuilding technologies.
