Wallenius newbuilds will get PM shaft generators

FEBRUARY 18, 2014 — The four direct-drive 1.5 MW permanent magnet (PM) shaft generators ordered from The Switch by WE Tech Solutions (see earlier story) are to be installed on the four post-Panamax car car carriers on order for Wallenius Lines at Tianjin Xingang shipyard in China for delivery in 2015 and 2016.

WE Tech Solutions Oy and Tianjin Xingang Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co. signed a contract for the delivery of four direct drive permanent magnet shaft solutions for the Wallenius newbuilds in January.

The ships are designed by Deltamarin of Finland which says that “special fuel saving devices are applied to reduce fuel consumption.” Evidently, those “devices” include the PM shaft generators
