Marine Log‘s Ship Repair USA 2026, scheduled for June 23-24 at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Fla., will feature a session examining how shipyard infrastructure investments are reshaping repair efficiency, vessel throughput and operational flexibility.

Douglas Pearlson, executive chairman of The Pearlson Group, will present “Shiplift Economics and Throughput: What Owners and Yards Need to Know,” a session focused on the operational and financial impacts of shiplifts, transfer systems and land-level repair berths.

The presentation will explore how shipyards that have modernized infrastructure with shiplifts and transfer systems are improving repair capacity while reducing drydocking risks and vessel downtime.

Topics will include shiplift economics, including both capital expenditures and operating costs, as well as how upgraded infrastructure can improve throughput and increase scheduling flexibility for naval and commercial vessels.

The session will also examine how transfer systems can help shipyards unlock additional capacity by allowing vessels to be moved away from the waterfront and closer to workshops and fabrication areas, improving access for repair teams and equipment.

According to Pearlson, land-level repair operations can also support environmental and operational improvements by creating opportunities for more efficient containment measures and better-controlled work environments during repair projects.

Ship Repair USA brings together shipyard leaders, vessel owners and operators, suppliers and industry stakeholders to discuss repair strategies, workforce challenges, modernization and operational best practices across the maritime industry.

The 2026 event will focus on practical approaches to improving repair efficiency, managing costs and supporting long-term operational resilience in both commercial and government sectors.
