UT755S Buoy tenderAUGUST 22, 2012 — A highly specialized buoy tender vessel ordered by India’s Directorate General of Lighthouses & Lightships (DGLL) is to have an £8 million Rolls-Royce design and equipment package.

The vessel will be operating in remote waters off the east coast of India and around the Andaman & Nicobar Islands maintaining and replacing navigational aids and buoys. The vessel will be built at the Cochin Shipyard Ltd. in India, and is due for delivery from the shipbuilder in 2015.

Per Kristian Furø, Rolls-Royce, General Manager Sales Ship Technology – Offshore said: “We are very pleased that the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships has chosen a highly advanced Rolls-Royce design and power systems package, focusing on both environmental and operational features, when extending their fleet.”

The buoy tender vessel is a Rolls-Royce UT 755 S, which is a development of the well proven UT 755 series, and designed to operate safely in the most challenging conditions.

In addition to the design, Rolls-Royce will also supply the main engines, propulsion system, automation and control system, deck machinery and shaft generators.

Cochin Shipyard Ltd. has previously built over 20 Rolls-Royce designed vessels. The shipyard, which is owned by the Government of India, signed the construction contract for the vessel with DGLL earlier this month.

The 71.2 m x 16.0 m vessel will be equipped with a 35 t crane and will have a 16 m diameter helicopter deck. It will be powered by two 2,000 kW diesels driving two C.P. propellers and will have two bow thrusters and one stern thruster, each rated at 590 kW.

It will have FiFi 1 capabilities and will be equipped with SONAR to locate and mark wrecks up to a water depth of 40 m.

The vessel will have accommodations for 32 persons.

It will replace the existing vessel M.V. Pradeep which has been in service with DGLL for the last 25 years.
