MV Werften signs design contract for giant cruise ship

Ship will be largest passenger vessel buildy in Germany

JULY 29, 2016 — Finland’s Elomatic Ltd and Deltamarin Ltd yesterday signed a large scale three-party engineering contract with German shipbuilder MV Werften for the design of a Global Class mega passenger ship.

The contract covers large parts of the basic and detailed design of the vessel and is the largest in both Elomatic’s and Deltamarin’s histories, in total representing 860 man-years of work. The contract value has not been disclosed. The Global Class mega passenger ship for is being built for cruise line Star Cruises.

It will be the largest passenger ship ever built in Germany and one of the largest ever built world-wide, with a length of over 340 m, beam of 45 m and a gross register tonnage of 200,001 grt.

Delivery to Star Cruises is scheduled for 2020.

Both Star Cruises and MV Werften are subsidiaries of Genting Hong Kong.

The scope of work for Elomatic and Deltamarin includes engineering for the basic and detail design phases in all engineering disciplines. Both companies will also assist the shipyard during the construction with technical site services.

The companies, both based in Turku Finland, have extensive experience and know-how in the design of mega passenger ships.
