MAY 7, 2015 — Classification society IRClass (Indian Register of Shipping) reports that it has just completed the new construction survey of a high value, technologically sophisticated buoy tender and multi-purpose vessel built by Cochin Shipyard Ltd (India) under single class.

Built to Rolls-Royce UT 755 S design, at a cost of around $25 million, the 72 m, 1,350 dwt, MV Indira Point is fitted with helideck and a 35 tons capacity crane for handling buoys in deep seas.

It was handed over to the Directorate General of Light Houses and Light Ships (DGLL India) in April after being delivered two months ahead of schedule by the shipbuilder under close supervision of IRClass.

“This single class project and its successful completion represents a major step forward for IRClass,” said IRClass Chairman and Managing Director Mr. Arun Sharma. “Not only was the vessel delivered early, IRClass was also able to offer significant technical inputs to the Cochin shipyard and this relationship bodes well for the future as we believe there will be further orders for this kind of sophisticated vessel.”

“The on time to specification delivery shows IRClass is now able to handle some of the most sophisticated tonnage and we hope to win more as a result of this progress,” he added.
