MARCH 3, 2016 — South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) is not only the world’s largest shipbuilder but also a leading marine engine manufacturer — and it has just produced its 10,000th HiMSEN (Hi-Touch Marine and Stationary Engine) engine for a 14,400 TEU containership ordered by Costamare, Greece.

Suitable for both ship propulsion and power generation in onshore power plants, HiMSEN engines are medium speed four-stroke engines that HHI independently developed in 2001 after 10 years of research and development.

The engine offers a high-output and high-efficiency, and  HHI has exported HiMSENs to 550 clients from 43 countries over the past 15 years.

As  well as models operating on diesel fuel, HHI now offers natural gas fueled and dual fueled HiMSEN engines.

In September last year, HHI introduced the next generation CLEAN (Customer, ReLiability, Environment, Acceptable Technology, No Defect) HiMSEN engine.

The CLEAN HiMSEN engine delivers a 20 percent power output increase and 2 percent fuel efficiency improvement compared to the previous same class four-stroke engines, while its physical size and weight are 10 percent smaller and lighter respectively with the utilization of high pressure combustion technology.
