Gondan books order for two patrol boats

JULY 28, 2014 — Spanish shipbuilder Astilleros Gondan has signed a contract with the Spanish Guardia Civil for the construction of two patrol vessels.

With an overall length of 20.5 m and a beam of 5.0 m, the boats are to be built in aluminum and GRP in Gondan’s Vegadeo shipyard. Both are scheduled to be delivered in the summer of 2015.

The vessels are designed and equipped for surveillance, fighting drug trafficking and illegal immigration, plus protection of the marine environment.

Build for a service life of at least 15 years the waterjet driven, 2,000 hp patrol boats can reach a speed of 25 knots. With a range of more than 570 miles, they will comply with MARPOL air pollution standards.

They will have accommodations for five crew members in cabins.

Gondan has developed a new shipbuilding line for aluminum and GRP workboats at the Vegadeo shipyard. Facilities include a warehouse of 2,000 sq.m, of which 1,400 sq.m is fully thermally insulated and heated. The production line is equipped with a fireproofed and isolated welding zone, an area for resin projection and a vacuum pump for lamination by infusion.
