Ferus Smit wins order for two DP2 ECOBOX vessels

JANUARY 6, 2015 — Symphony Shipping B.V., the Netherlands subsidiary of Singapore’s Symphony Ventures Pte Ltd., has added two more ECOBOX multipurpose vessels to the six it has on order at Westerbroek, Netherlands, based shipbuilder Ferus Smit, the first of which is set for March 2015 delivery.

The two latest vessels will be DP2 offshore-dedicated versions of the existing versatile ECOBOX one-hold design. The addition of the DP2 dynamic positioning capability will enable them to be used as a large capacity, long range offshore supply vessels.

The ECOBOX-DP vessel is particularly designed for project cargoes in the wind farm and oil and gas related industry, including pipe laying- and cable laying support.  The vessel has one long box shaped hold and the open top notation enables the vessel to transport large project cargoes without height restrictions and to be loaded or unloaded at open sea.

The DP2 vessels be equipped with double azimuth ducted thrusters in the aft ship, combined with 3 bow thrusters forward. All thrusters will be driven by a combined diesel-direct and diesel-electric system totaling abt. 8,000 kW.

Other features of the vessel are:

• Maximum loading capacity abt. 10,500 DWT with hatches closed and abt. 7,000 DWT in open top condition.

• Large floor space for project cargoes, including complete movable tweendeck.
• 
Two cargo cranes.
Deckhouse placed on fore ship for better protection of deck cargo and enabling loading of oversized items over the stern.

• The Ferus Smit ECO bulbless Canoe type bow, designed to reduce fuel costs and  better sustained speed with excellent sea keeping behavior in harsh weather and sea state conditions.

The ships will be build and delivered by Ferus-Smit’s shipyard in Leer, Germany in 2016 and 2017.
