DNV GL to class MV Werften expedition yachts

Endeavour class will be be the world's largest expedition yachts with ice class

DECEMBER 12, 2016 — German shipbuilder MV Werften has contracted DNV GL to classify the three 20,000 gt Endeavor-class vessels that it is building for Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises.

Being built according to the Polar Code with ice class PC6, the expedition yachts are designed for operation in the Arctic, Antarctic and also in the Tropics and will be the world’s largest expedition yachts with ice class.They will be three of the first passenger ships to be classified according to the new DNV GL rules.

Construction will commence at MV Werften’s Stralsund shipyard in 2017 and delivered to Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises from 2019.

Both MV Werften and Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises are owned by Genting Hong Kong.

“Its extensive experience in ship classification makes DNV GL a strong and reliable partner for us,” said Guido Schulte, Vice President Design at MV Werften.
