TTB: What’s involved in fitting an ASD tug with Tier 4?

A major focus at Marine Log’s TTB (Tugs, Towboats & Barges) event will be on real-life lessons learned from practical experience. In one important presentation, Bisso Towboat’s John Davis and Caterpillar Marine will explain what was involved in installing a Tier 4 propulsion plant, with its associated SCR system, in the recently delivered Andrew S. The vessel is the fourth new ASD tug built for Bisso in the past five years by the Main Iron Works shipyard in Houma, La., and fitting in the Tier 4 system (plus Sub-M mods) meant making some adjustments to the well-proven existing design. The result: the most powerful ASD in the Mississippi River ship-assist trade.
