MAY 18, 2016 — Finland’s Containerships Ltd Oy, which has six 1,400 TEU LNG fueled containerships on order at China’s Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding (see earlier story), now says delivery of the ships has been delayed and it is switching shipyards.
When the ships were originally ordered the first was set for delivery this year.
In its interim report for the fourth quarter of 2015, however, the company said, “The construction of the new LNG vessels to be leased are proceeding as planned and are expected to be delivered from Q1 2017 onwards. All 4 vessels should be operational by H2 2018 at the latest. Negotiations of two company-own-financed vessels are proceeding as planned.”
Now, in its interim report for the first quarter of 2016, Containerships says “The first four LNG vessels are targeted to be delivered during 2018, as informed. However, the delivery of the first vessel will be delayed until early 2018 due to a change in the shipyard. Re-negotiations of the two company-own-financed vessels and two other vessels are ongoing.”
