Japan’s first dual LNG/VLSFO bunkering tanker launched

Yokohama headquartered Ecobunker Shipping yesterday held a naming and launching ceremony for Japan’s first bunkering tanker capable of ship-to-ship deliveries of both LNG and VLSFO (very low sulfur fuel oil).’

Being built at Fukuoka Shipbuilding, the ship was named Ecobunker Tokyo Bay in a ceremony with limited attendance, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that was live streamed on YouTube.

The 95.57 meter x 15.8 meter ship has an LNG capacity of 2,500 cu.m and a VLSFO capacity of 1,500 cu.m.

It is now completing outfitting at the shipyard, including installation of tanks and equipment and is set to enter service on Tokyo Bay in 2021.
