Jumbo Shipping exercises option at BrodosplitWritten by Nick Blenkey
Heavy lift operator Jumbo Shipping has exercised an option for the construction of a second heavy lift vessel at Croatian shipbuilder Brodosplit.
The ship will be a sister ship to the vessel ordered at Brodosplit in July this year (see earlier story).
The new generation ice-class vessels will each have a length of 152.6 m and a beam of 27.40 m and will be equipped with two 1,100 t cranes (at 27.5 m outreach) able to lift up to 2,200 t in tandem.
Deadweight on a draft of 8.1 m will be 14,00 tons.
Twin engines, each rated at 4,500 kW at 750 rpm, will give the vessels a service speed of 17 knots. The ships will be prepared for future DP2 installation for offshore operations.
Delivery of the first vessel from the shipyard is planned in the first half of 2013t and the second is scheduled for delivery at the end of the same year.
